Have you ever been tempted to do something that in your heart you knew to be less than ethical in order to get ahead in your career or in life? Maybe you stopped to ponder over the idea thinking it through on all angles trying to justify your thought process to yourself and whether it would be worth it or not.
Maybe it was to take a shortcut in your work that would detract from your expected quality just so you could rip through a greater level of volume and make more money.
Maybe it went deeper than that, you thought and were hoping to cheat your way to the very top of your industry because you’ve laid witness to others getting away with it and figured, “Why should I play by a different set of moral rules than they do if they don’t have to?”
Inside you may feel that it doesn’t matter how you reach your goal as long as you get there, however, you may be surprised to learn that every step you take on your journey towards your greater vision and desired outcome will have an effect on your result, those around you and on you as a person.
Just look around at the evidence that stares us square in the face as a society today. We have the doom and gloom of the housing debacle. Why did it happen? Well experts will give you all sorts of reasons, but regardless of what they say it comes down to greed and lack of integrity.
With multiple Wall Street Banking firms, quickly creating what seemed to be an infinite number of mortgage programs that were never properly tested to see what the results would be and each time lowering the qualification standards all to feed their pockets and egos. We find ourselves in the largest worldwide recession of its kind.
With modern day pirates like Bernie Madoff who traded in their swords for pens to swindle unexpected investors out of billions of dollars so they can forge ahead on their self fulfilling quests of personal prosperity.
And the list goes on and on.
Why should you care?
That’s because “the caliber of your person is what will determine the quality of your life.” Although it may seem as though your actions will gain you the results that you desire quicker, your integrity and moral compass will suffer.
Other people may never know what you did to obtain your success, but you’ll know. The funny thing about that is that the universe will also know. “So what?” you might be thinking now.
Well, maybe nothing bad will happen if you follow this type of path. Yet maybe the people you interact with will sense that you are not genuine and decide to work with someone else. Eventually your own conscience won’t be able to rest because of your past actions and at some point you’ll end up making some major errors in judgment that will right your past wrongs.
The truth has a very unique way of making itself known, and it’s very impressive as to how creative it sometimes does so.
Instead if you make it your priority to do what’s right each day, you’ll get the right results. Focus on being a person of high integrity and moral values who deserves the level of success you desire, and you will achieve any level of success easily.

I agree with you 100% on the importance of integrity (to you, and to me), but some folks don't have a conscience and will always be able to rest well, and at least by all appearances, the universe is absolutely oblivious.
