Facebook Vanity Names. What’s The Hype?

So were you part of the mad rush to stake your claim of internet real estate?

Will it really affect your efforts at successful network marketing?

There was such an overflow of people running over to their Facebook page to snag up their vanity name. Some people were left wondering what all the hype was about.

I mean really, what’s the big deal?

Are people really that vain?

Honestly, it should only matter to you if you are an internet marketer, entrepreneur, network marketer or a person who conducts business on a daily basis. Regardless if you do it to get paid or for some charity organization.

That’s a bit broad isn’t it?

I think that most everyone fit’s into this category one way or another. Think of it this way, you conduct yourself as a professional person, regardless of your chosen field. You may go through a career change or two, or five. Every time you move from company to company, you find that you have to start over from the ground up.

What if there was a way for you to maintain a seamless transition from place to place?

Would that be of value to you?

Well, that is why to develop, maintain, and nurture any successful business, you absolutely must brand yourself. Let me give you just three areas, that if you focus on, you will find greater success in your business regardless of your chosen field.

  1. Self Branding - If you are currently marketing by using your companies replicated websites, your companies logo and image or their training program. STOP! You must brand YOU!
  2. Be Yourself – Even if you think that people wont like you, or maybe someone is telling you that you need to be more like “Joe Blow”. STOP it! You need and must be yourself. People want to do business with people they know, like and trust. Trust me when I tell you that you’re perfect today, the way you are and there are many people that want to get to know you.
  3. Image - Create and maintain an image of yourself that supports who you really are. I can remember way back, when people would tell me that “the way I dress will make or break a business opportunity.” Nope. I have tried the power tie and suite, although I enjoy it from time to time, I’m more of a casual dresser and my business has not suffered from it at all. If anything I have seen great growth in what I do.

So how does this all tie in to Facebook vanity names?

Well, if you are building your business correctly then you not only want to have a vanity name with Facebook, but try to grab YOUR name. My Facebook vanity name is http://facebook.com/ashley.bolivar . I know, it’s catchy isn’t it?

Come by and visit me there and if I still have room, send me a friend request. I would love to learn more about you. Oh, one last thing. That dot in between the first and last name is actually important for the search engines.

I did not know that when I set up my Twitter account so when doing a search for me on google, it crunches my first and last name together and some of my site won’t show up. Darn!!! So, remember that tip as you create any social media site.

If you have any questions about this post or self branding, post it in the comments section below or send me an email. Before you go let me know what you thought about this post by leaving me a comment below.

It's so true. Life is all about marketing yourself properly these days, no matter what kind of career you're looking to enter. It's all about selling a slick image to an employer or a client, and social networking helps with that.

I was JUST thinking about this. What is the big deal about Facebook names? If someone needs to find you its easy enough already if they are on Facebook already. How would I look, going into a bar and saying "Yeah, find me on facebook dot com forward slash…" hahaha :)

I have dots in my vanity name and I didn't know that about the search engines, thanks for the tip! But I agree, vanity names are quite ridiculous, everyone I know at 12:01 were "claiming" their names, and I didn't do mine until facebook prompted me to three or four days later. And guess what? I was still able to get my name exactly as it is on my profile.

I did not realize how important a name is. Thanks for the information. I was wondering why so many people have the dot. Now I know. I especially like the idea of being and presenting myself and being honest about who I am.
