Recently I was having a conversation with a network marketer who is new to the industry, bright eager and excited to make a difference in his life and those around him.
Well, after we had been talking for some time, he divulged to me that things had not been going as well as he had hoped. The he was doing everything that his upline was telling him to do but was having no success.
I was a bit intrigued to learn what he was doing that had him finding the little success that he had. Then he went on to share that he has decided to put his “business on hold”.
Now, if you have not been in this industry for any period of time, I can tell you right now that this is the network marketing kiss of death. When someone makes this decision, the chances of them getting going again are very slim.
In most cases they tend to move on to something else. Maybe it’s another online business, affiliate program, or just get out off network marketing all together.
But what have they really given up on?
How do they rationalize to themselves that it’s ok to put their dreams, goals, their deepest desires on hold?
Ultimately the only thing that they are putting on hold is their future designed the way they would like it to be.
Personally I know too well all these feeling and challenges that new network marketers face. If I can impress upon you one message that will save you from much frustration that would be.
“Believe in yourself”
Know in your heart of hearts that all the challenges that you face are just part of a rite of passage if you will. But you absolutely must have a level of unconscious conviction that would with stand the greatest onslaught of challenges.
As far as some of the tactics that he was using, well there is nothing new to the reason why he was faced with such heartache. He was still using the very same antiquated techniques that were great way back before the invention of the internet and cell phone.
Do they still work?
That will be for another conversation.
For now just remember a few key parts.
First and foremost, “People want to do business with people that they know like and trust.”
As for “offline” versus “online”, Well you need to remember three things.
1) Market – have you first defined your market? Who is your niche? What kind of person are you looking to attract in to your business?
2) Message – What are you saying to them that has them look to you as the trusted source of information? Is your message compelling enough to have them want to take action?
3) Media – This is how that message is being delivered. “offline”, “online”, “newsprint”, “infomercials” etc. You need to make sure that the media that you are using to attract your ideal client is relevant to your niche.
An example of this would be a weight loss ad would best be suited in a fitness magazine NOT a car magazine.
These three steps are equally as important however you have to take them in the order that they are laid out for you.
